How to Swim a Length Under Water. By Greg O'Connell
(Recite poem in a single breath if you can...)
Pump your lungs as far as they'll go
like a balloon that's about to pop
do a long flat dive that rockets you
down the pool like a torpedo below
the surface grab armfuls of water
pushing it back past your hips so your
body shoots forward like a squid again
and again ready to burst again and
again straining to touch the wall again
and again and again until
you reach... THE END
TASK--- 1. Can you find any language features? (simile)
2.Have a go at writing your own poem. The theme of the poem should be based on your experiences at swimming over the past few weeks. Paint a picture using your words. Remember to include language features like: simile, metaphor, rhyme...
3. When you publish your poem to the class blog try to present it in an interesting way. Think about adding art, colour, design to your work to make it really stand out.
I did it in a single breath :)
ReplyDeleteWhen you say art and color and stuff, do you mean getting a picture off the internet and posting it or something like that?
Saffron ☺
Sure. That's perfect, or you could do a picture in your scrap book and photograph it...
DeleteAnything that you can think of Saffron.

ReplyDeleteWhen I first get in the water it's cold
But when I put my head under it's like all sound disappears and it feels so refreashing
When I'm doing freestyle I love the feel of gliding through the water
I get out and immediately feel as cold as ice
Because the water was so very warm.
